Chilly February weather in Europe is only really a positive if your idea of the perfect break is being up a mountain, staring down a ski run. But there are the carnivals in the run-up to Lent, as Shrove Tuesday falls in February. Carnevale in Venice is spectacular and further afield there are the lively Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans or the fabulous Rio Carnival. For guaranteed warmth and sunny weather by the beach, you’ll need to travel beyond Europe. Flying East, the weather is perfect in the Maldives, Kerala, Sri Lanka and Thailand or, if you head West, February is a great time of year to visit the islands of the West Indies - although it's still peak season, so prices will be quite high. February's also a good time of year to explore Latin America - it's the dry season in Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Costa Rica.
