When’s the best time to visit Peru? It sounds like a straightforward question — but it’s one of those destinations where the answer depends very much on what you actually want to do.
Peru isn’t just one place. You’ve got the Andes, the Amazon and the coast — all with different weather patterns and ideal travel windows. So while there are certain times of year that work particularly well, there isn’t one single “best” month that suits everything. That said, there are some periods that tend to work especially well for most itineraries — and one of those is March through to June. With clear skies, little rainfall, fewer tourists and the joys of harvest time, these months are a perfect time to visit. Stop for photos of vibrant colours and stunning views, linger at uncrowded ancient sites and strike up conversations with the friendly locals. Take the family at Easter or experience the wonderful Inti Raymi Festival in Cusco in June.

Clear skies, beautiful landscapes. March to June has bright, clear days and low rainfall ensuring superb views of the ancient sites. You'll be able to take in beautiful mountain landscapes on the Altiplano, in the Sacred Valley or on Lake Titicaca. It's an ideal time to travel for keen photographers.

Harvest time in the Andes. March to June is harvest time in the Andes, with the fields and mountainsides a riot of colour and you'll be able to observe the rural life of local communities hard at work bringing in the harvest. The work is manual, unchanged over centuries. The Andes also has incredible biodiversity, which is best observed at this time of the year.
Less tourists, more authentic travel. March to June is a quieter time of year for tourism, enabling better availability for flights and at your chosen lodges or hotels. The famous sites, from Machu Picchu to Lake Titicaca, can be explored with your local guide in a more leisurely and authentic way.

Experience the Inti Raymi Festival. On 24th June 2025 and throughout the month, the magnificent Inca "Sun Festival" is held in and around Cusco to celebrate the winter solstice. Local people, in brightly-coloured dress, perform dances and rituals. View the celebrations in Cusco and at the nearby ruins of Sacsayhuaman.
Easter with the family. Rather than travelling in the school summer holidays, the Easter holidays are an ideal time for a family-oriented tour of Peru. Discover ancient cultures, colonial history, mountain landscapes and the diversity of the Amazon rainforest with your young explorers.

Explore the Peruvian Amazon. The Peruvian Amazon is a vast, easily accessible, virgin tropical rainforest. Toucans, macaws, parrots, tamarin monkeys and black alligators are among the many wildlife species to spot as you explore its rivers or creeks. Stay on a luxury river boat or in a riverside lodge.
Hike the Inca Trail. If you want to hike the famous Inca Trail, it's a good idea to avoid the peak period, particularly if you're not booking a long way in advance. The Peruvian Government limits the number of daily permits available to hike the trail - and these get quickly snapped up in the popular summer months. March to June is a good time to complete the four day trail - with clear skies and low rainfall. imagine arriving at sunrise at Machu Picchu after walking through stunning Andean landscapes, local villages and remote markets with your guide.

If you’d like help putting together a trip that actually works for the time of year you’re travelling, it’s one of those things that’s much easier to talk through — feel free to get in touch.
