SOUTH AMERICA: NOTES FROM MY TRAVELS.

Iguazú Falls is my absolute favourite place in the world. I still remember my first visit — back then, the hotel inside the park on the Brazilian side of the Falls was simply called Las Cataratas, long before Belmond acquired it. Even on that very first trip, the sheer power of the water, the thunderous roar, and the endless rainbows dancing in the mist left me speechless. No photo can truly capture it, and no description can quite do justice to the scale and energy of this natural wonder.

I always stay at Belmond Hotel das Cataratas for its unbeatable location.. Being there early in the morning, before the crowds arrive, gives you the feeling that these incredible falls are yours alone. Toucans call from the trees, coatis scurry through the undergrowth, and the constant roar of the waterfalls forms a soundtrack like no other. I’ve returned many times since, and each visit is just as overwhelming as the first.

It’s a place that reminds you why travel matters — the sheer scale, beauty, and power of nature, experienced in a way that stays with you forever.

If you’d like to discover the places and experiences in South America that will truly leave a lasting impression, I’d be delighted to talk them through with you. Get in touch
