GUATEMALA
Often overlooked as a destination and far smaller than neighbouring Mexico, Guatemala has a great deal to offer the visitor.
Lake Atitlan
This shimmering lake is in an absolutely glorious setting - circled by volcanoes and with traditional Mayan communities along its shores. Go on a boat trip stopping off to explore some of the villages on the lake.
Antigua
This lovely colonial city is in a stunning setting, surrounded by the volcanoes of Agua, Acatenango and Fuego. There are cobbled streets, colourful colonial buildings and leafy plazas which are perfect for watching the world go by.
Tikal
This is one of Central America’s most impressive Mayan sites – with ancient temples rising up through the jungle canopy.
Western Highlands
If you really want to get off the beaten track, you can explore the Western Highlands with its mountain communities that have changed little in centuries.

TRAVEL GURU SUMMARY
There's a great variety of places to see in Guatemala and I'd definitely recommend a visit here. One idea would be to combine a tour here with time on the beach in Belize, which is only a hop, skip and a jump away.
DONT MISS...
No trip to Guatemala would be complete without a visit to lively Chichicastanengo Market. It’s a huge handicrafts market, where you'll find pottery and amazing colourful textiles for which Guatemala is justly famous.
